Designing the base cabinet layout in a small kitchen requires strategic planning to maximize functionality while maintaining a sense of spaciousness. The key is to optimize every inch of available space through efficient configurations that prioritize workflow and accessibility.

One effective layout is the “one-wall” design, where base cabinets are aligned along a single wall, leaving the central area open for movement. This is ideal for narrow kitchens, as it avoids the cramped feeling of multiple intersecting cabinet runs. In such setups, cabinets are typically 60-70 cm deep, with a continuous countertop providing ample workspace. Additionally, raising base cabinets by 10-15 cm off the floor creates a small gap for storing frequently used items like step stools or cleaning supplies, while also making cleaning easier.

Lighting is also crucial: installing LED strips under wall cabinets illuminates the base cabinet countertops, making the area feel larger. By combining these layouts with smart storage solutions, small kitchens can achieve both functionality and a streamlined aesthetic.
